Module 2: The Sensory System, the Brain, and Learning

This is possibly the longest module for this course.  However, it is essential to know something about ALL the senses -- i.e., the body's entire Sensory System -- so we can connect the dots on aspects of what might be missing, and the possibilities of filling in the gaps.  The module briefly covers all the senses and the functioning of the brain as well -- since it is the brain that actually interprets for us.  Our senses coordinate with each other, and rapidly alternate between them in order to provide us with the most complete information we may need.  If any or all the senses are compromised, it affects both the coordination and the gathering of complete information.  Our vision and hearing are considered our "distance" senses.  That is, they collect information from a distance and one does not need to be in contact with the "information" provided in order to derive meaning from them.  We hope you enjoy this information -- some of it you may have learned before, and some may be new.
